"Good wines start in the vineyard."
“Good wines start in the vineyard.” We truly believe in that saying, and a good vineyard starts with good vineyard management. Last year we started a five year vineyard management plan. This plan will set in motion a total vineyard revival. Our plan is to increase wine production and quality without over impacting the vineyard environment. The first year we made a complete vineyard inventory along with a soil and nutrient analysis. This early inventory and analysis helped us spot and correct problem areas in our vineyard. This year we are working on corrective pruning and re-trellising certain sections of the vineyard. This will promote a more robust and healthier growth of the vine which translates into better wine. We have set down plans for replanting some less productive sections of the vineyard with newer clones that are better suited for Temecula Valley. Our plan includes rerouting our irrigation system to water smaller sections of the vineyard. Our plan is to micromanage the irrigation to supply water where needed and at the correct amounts. This will help with grape quality and water conservation.
In addition to our normal vineyard management, we have selected a new section of our vineyard that will produce organically grown grapes for a future organic wine. We are excited in the prospect of growing organically, on this small section, and hope that the knowledge gained will be used on the main vineyard.
